January 7, 2008
January is the last month of the first ever Super Duper Blogger Book Exchange. Erin, Isabel, Audrey, Amberly and I are finishing up our final books (she sent it, you’ll get it soon), and by February 1st, they will be mailed back to their original owners.
To quickly re-cap how the SDBBE worked, each of us provided a book and was assigned a color. We read our selected books and used our assigned colors to add commentary in the pages. We marked what we liked, what we didn’t like, what made us laugh, and we added a lot of our own wit and good humor to our books. Then we each mailed our book to the next person. The Circle of Exchange went like this:
(colors assignments as pictured above)
Each participant, hereby known as Sexy Exies (because we’re sexy and we ‘ex’changed books), had one book at a time and one month to complete it and mail it to the next person. At the upcoming close of the exchange, each of us will receive our original book back with colorful commentary from each of the other Sexy Exies. Even though some of us nearly hyperventilate at the thought of other people writing in our books, we will certainly treasure our newly found keepsakes.
I think that now is the perfect time to get things going with SDBBE Round II. To join in, please e-mail me at weekdaywisdom@gmail.com by January 20th. I’ll give you a color assignment, and you can get to work. The sooner you e-mail me, the more time you’ll have to pick out and prepare a book. I’ll also need to know which book you’ve chosen by January 20th (to avoid duplication-first come, first served), and the deadline for mailing the books will be February 15. The deadline will be the fifteenth of each month from then on, and I will try to arrange groups that will last no longer than four months.
Anyone is welcome, blog or no blog, but please keep in mind that you will be committed for a while, and you’ll need to be able to meet the mailing deadlines. The Circle of Exchange is dependent on everyone’s commitment to the deadline. Are you dependable? Good. You may play, but please keep in mind that you will likely have to read a book or two that you absolutely can not stand. If the first SDBBE proved anything, it’s that no one likes reading the same thing, but you might find something you love that you never would have picked out yourself.
Now, on to the fun part: choosing a book. There is a bit of criteria I ask you to follow in your selection:
- A quick read (approx. 300-350 pages or less)
- Content should not exceed PG-13
- Paperback is preferred
Used books are fine. It’s up to you. Happy Reading!

I know I’m supposed to email you but this is easier right now. I think this sounds so cool but I am wondering what the time line is to read each book? Do you only have one month to read a book? Let me know and I’ll sign up if I think I can meet the deadlines.

I’m definitely in. I’ll rule out The Other Boleyn Sister since it appears everyone has read or is reading it. Although, it is a page turner, I’ll give it that. I’m a little more self-conscious in picking a book this time though because everyone hated the book I chose last time and I loved it. Obviously I have completely unpopular taste in books. Oh well. Mine had no potty words in it - you should be proud of me for that!
One question though…..why paperback? I don’t mind writing in the bigger paperback books (do you know what I mean?) but the smaller ones are hard to write in for me (I write big, I can’t help it). So, just as a warning, I may break the paperback rule. Which should be allowed since someone broke the 300 page rule last time.

Make that The Other Boleyn GIRL……..you’d think I haven’t been up ’til 4am everyday reading it or something!

Dude, I AM SO IN. I loved doing this. Even though I didn’t like most of the books, it was fun.
(And for the record, I just got my January book yesterday. So I wasn’t the only one late in mailing.)
I’ll send you my book pick today. And dude, I hope I can read it and comment on it by February. I’m having a hard time finishing books.
(Also, let’s make paperback books MANDATORY. There were too many hardback books this last time. Shipping them is expensive and I’m poor.)

P.S. I HAVE got to get some more people to sign up for this. I’ll get the word out today!

Oh, I am so in! I’m so excited that you’re doing this again! I was a little sad when I picked up my January book (um, yeah. Just made it to the post office yesterday. I’m sure it was mailed in time, but I apparently suck at picking it up in time) and thought it might be the last commentary-filled book I get to read for awhile.
I’ll have to think about what my book will be and get back to you. It’s tempting to re-read an oldie-but-goodie, but I’m thinking I might go out on a limb and pick something totally new to me this time around. (Because, really, with 100 books on my goodreads to-read list, I should be trying to make a dent in that number rather than re-reading.)
Also, sexy exies? LOVE it.

I have succumbed to Audrey and Isabel’s peer pressure. Please count me in! I sent an e-mail to, just to show how well I follow directions. Am dependable!

I am in! Because Isabel said so and it also looks fun.

I love book exchanges, but I can’t do this one because:
1) I can’t bring myself to writing in books - people would need to follow along with my OCD notes on a separate piece of paper.
2) I have a very hard time reading a book with writing in it - I bought used books in college, and I thumbed through EVERY copy to find the least-vandalized one in the bunch.
3) My book club is reading “Anna Karenina” right now, so I am booked (heh, get it?) until the end of February. That book is a beast.
But yay for books! And reading! I really do love the swapping idea.

I can’t bring myself TO WRITE in books. Not “to writing.” Argh.
